Updated June 13, 2011 14:31:00 Wet weather has continued to cause havoc in New South Wales, particularly in coastal areas.
Motorists have been urged to exercise extra care as the long weekend comes to a close.
A severe weather warning has been issued for the northern tablelands, northern rivers and mid-north coast, and flood warnings are also in place.
In the state's north the Pacific Highway has water across it at Halfway Creek and Blackadder Creek, between Coffs Harbour and Grafton.
There are also lengthy delays on the highway at Bulahdelah, north of Newcastle.
Further inland there are reports that low lying bridges and roads are under water in the Upper Bellinger River valley.
The State Emergency Service had more than 200 calls for help overnight, with more expected today.
SES spokeswoman Becky Gollings says the majority of calls for help last night came from the central coast and Hunter regions.
"We're just urging people to take precautions, prepare their properties if they can, clear their gutters," Ms Gollings said.
"If you are out on the road take it easy. So don't drive through flood waters and don't ride or walk through flood waters either."
The Roads and Traffic Authority is expecting heavy road congestion, particularly in the state's south as people return from the snow fields.
Dave Wright from the transport management centre says it is important to drive to the conditions.
"We're just advising motorists that if you do come across wet weather just take it nice and easy," Mr Wright said.
"Obviously allow yourself some additional travel time, but also things like keeping your headlights on, allowing a little additional space between you and the car in front.
"They (motorists) may get home late because of the wet weather, because of the increased volumes in traffic, but as long as they get home safe that's the most important thing."
