Water levels around the Wyong Shire aren't expected to subside significantly until around Sunday, with high tides due over the next few days.

The Bunning Creek Bridge at Yarramalong has been water damaged after being inundated yesterday.

The water level has since subsided, and drivers are being warned to be careful when crossing the structure.

It'll be repaired over the weekend.

Several roads at Killarney Vale and Chittaway still remain closed to all but residential traffic.

The water levels in the lakes are around 70 centimetres above normal.

A flood warning is current for Tuggerah Lakes as a precautionary measure.

Newcastle surfers and fishermen are being warned to avoid the coast over the next few days because of dangerous weather conditions.

Surf Life Saving New South Wales says patrolled beaches, wearing life jackets and surfing or fishing with friends are recommended.

Brent Manieri from Surf Life Saving says large waves and swells are expected.

"Obviously 2.5 metres is a large swell and with a 10 to 11 second swell period there's gonna be large breaks between the large swell," he said.

"So what we're advising is anyone venturing down to the coast to take a fair bit of time in observing the conditions before engaging in any activities."

He says people who want to fish or surf should always check the weather conditions.

"If they feel that their skill level doesn't match the conditions that they're looking at, then they should not venture out.

"Any swimmers that decide to venture to the coast over the next few days should try and find a patrolled beach, there are still some city beaches that are patrolled."
