The State Emergency Service says water levels around Tuggerah Lakes on the New South Wales Central Coast are holding steady at the moment but it remains on standby for possible flooding this afternoon.

The Wyong SES has has received more than 200 calls for help so far during this week's wild weather, and extra crews from Sydney have been called in to help with the backlog.

The only road closure is part of Yarramalong Road.

SES Controller Gary Whittaker says the situation is being closely monitored, with heavy rain predicted this afternoon.

"The areas that we are concerned about are those around the Tuggerah Lakes, Chittaway Point, Buff Point. Some of those properties already have water across the roads and into front yards of properties so we still need a fair bit of water to raise that level but we need to be ready in case that's what's coming this afternoon," he said.

Meanwhile, Newcastle University's Ourimbah campus is closed today due to localised weekend flooding, and predictions of more severe weather over the next 12 hours.

University exams scheduled for today and tomorrow have been posponed until next month.

A decision about whether the campus will re-open tomorrow will be made later today.

The Olyroos commenced their Olympic qualifying campaign by cruising to a 3-0 win over Yemen at Bluetongue Stadium on Sunday.

Fielding a starting side made up entirely of locally-based players, Australia dominated proceedings in the first leg of the preliminary round tie.

Striker Jason Hoffman scored twice and midfielder Mitch Nicholls once to give Australia a large buffer to take into the second leg in Newcastle on Thursday.

With Isaka Cernak and Nicholls making the play from midfield and Hoffman providing an aerial threat, Australia dictated terms against a side restricted to sporadic counter-attacks.

The Olyroos had several off-target shots before Hoffman headed home a Sebastian Ryall cross in the 14th minute.

Skipper Oliver Bozanic hit the crossbar with a free kick, as Australia had nine attempts on goal before Yemen's first shot was saved by Andrew Redmayne on the half hour.

Australia continued to dominate in the second half but struggled to produce telling passes into the penalty area.

Marko Jesic had a shot well saved and substitute Aaron Mooy hit the bar.

Nicholls added a second in the 67th minute with a close-range shot from a Hoffman cross, and Hoffman netted a third in stoppage time.

Yemen had a couple of late chances but rarely troubled Redmayne.

The winner of the tie advances to the group stage, from which three teams will automatically represent Asia at next year's London Olympics.

Two teenagers have been rescued after their fishing boat capsized off the New South Wales central coast on Friday.

The two boys were fishing in the dinghy about 7.30am (AEST) at Terrigal when they were thrown into the water.

The teenagers were about 70 metres from the shore when police arrived.

A police officer and a passer-by used a surf lifesaving paddle board to reach the teenagers.

Police say no-one was injured.

Water levels around the Wyong Shire aren't expected to subside significantly until around Sunday, with high tides due over the next few days.

The Bunning Creek Bridge at Yarramalong has been water damaged after being inundated yesterday.

The water level has since subsided, and drivers are being warned to be careful when crossing the structure.

It'll be repaired over the weekend.

Several roads at Killarney Vale and Chittaway still remain closed to all but residential traffic.

The water levels in the lakes are around 70 centimetres above normal.

A flood warning is current for Tuggerah Lakes as a precautionary measure.

A New South Wales Central Coast grandmother, who says she's been terrorised by teenagers in her own home for the past five months, has criticised local police for ignoring her pleas for help.

Susan Williams from Budgewoi says she's been verbally abused by the group, and her home regularly pelted with rocks and eggs since February.

Ms Williams says she has called the police on countless occasions but they refuse to do anything about it.

"They shouldn't be able to pick and choose who they do things for. The laws have been broken, my house has been vandalised and that is it, that is it and it is wrong," she said.

The ABC has contacted Tuggerah Lakes Police but they are yet to comment on the matter.

A new defence report appears to have ruled Newcastle out as the site of a second international airport to service Sydney.

But mayors on the New South Wales central coast are lobbying for their neighbouring region to be considered instead.

The developments continue the long and divisive debate on just where a second major airport for Sydney should be built.

The Royal Australian Air Force has reviewed civil aviation access to its airfields and found while the number of passenger flights at Newcastle Airport is manageable, airspace and runway congestion can occur.

It also found there would be significant disruption to passenger and military traffic if the current number of civilian take-offs and landings at the Williamtown facility is increased.

The Federal MP for Paterson, Bob Baldwin, says that rules the region out of the running as the site for a second airport for Sydney.

"What the report pretty much shadows is there will not be the capacity there for Williamtown to become the second international airport," Mr Baldwin said.

"That will be a welcome relief for residents.

"What we can't have is the RAAF base being jeopardised.

"I mean thousands of people that are employed there bring a great economic benefit to our region.

"The spend in the local community by the RAAF base brings great economic benefit to our community."

Two central coast mayors say their region has been considered as an option for more than a decade.

Gosford Mayor Laurie Maher says the prospects will be discussed at a meeting of the Central Coast Regional Organisation of Councils next week.

"I think that's a big step forward for the central coast," Councillor Maher said.

"We might be able to provide the solution for the Federal Government."

Possible airport locations on the central coast are all west of the F3 freeway in the plateau area of Kulnura, Peats Ridge and Somersby.

Councillor Maher says the central coast has several advantages over Newcastle.

"It's close to Sydney," he said.

"The Government is doing the feasibility on the fast train from Newcastle to Sydney, that could be part of the whole infrastructure.

"It's got the population base of both Newcastle and Sydney, and of course we've got a population here of 300,000 locally to go to 400,000 plus."
